How to Disinfect Your Steering Wheel Column
Though Covid vaccinations are becoming more widely distributed, it’s still important to maintain sanitization procedures and to practice sound biosecurity. As steering wheel column experts, we understand every component of this machinery and how it’s used, which is why we also understand the importance of disinfecting your machines regularly.
Though your company may be all for cleanliness, how to disinfect more specific parts of your heavy-duty equipment, like your steering wheel columns, isn’t a priority for many. But steering wheels are significant parts of your machines, both investment-wise and in function, especially if they’re high-end custom steering columns from BSM North America. How can you keep them clean without exposing them to harsh chemicals or expending too much time?
Washing Away the Worry of Contamination
Take it from a team of industrial parts fabrication pros: You don’t need high-end cleaning machines, hours of time, or the knowledge of a rocket scientist to keep your steering columns and related components clean. You just need a few rules of thumb and some elbow grease.
Comprehensively Clean Frequently Touched Areas
First of all, you must understand that only cleaning a single area of the console doesn’t do much in terms of preventing the spread of germs.
Steering wheel column cleanliness is important, but it’s only part of the equation; you must also periodically sanitize any part of a machine that’s frequently touched, including but not limited to:
● Handles
● Buttons
● Screens
● Arm rests
Essentially, if it comes in contact with a hand or other body part, it needs to be cleaned between shifts.
Bring On the Elbow Grease
Washing a steering wheel column and its similar components is pretty straightforward; All you have to do is gently wipe them down. Of course, though, there are a few caveats.
First, stay away from bleach. It’s harsh, abrasive, and corrosive, and none of those things are conducive with your steering column’s longevity. Plus, it might not actually be the best cleaner out there either. Instead, use mild soap and warm water (electrical safety taken into account), or a non-bleach based disinfectant, like diluted isopropyl alcohol.
Second, avoid mixing cleaning products. Find the solution that works for you and stick with it. You’ve probably been told all your life that bleach and ammonia create a toxic gas. There’s no sense in seeing what other deadly concoctions could arise from apparently harmless products.
